Purpose
Assignment organizer helps you to focus on the success criteria and deadlines for your assignments. It takes you out of moodle chaos and helps you to focus on what matters.
Signing In
This app stores data locally and requires no sign in. Your data will be saved as long as you do not clear your history.
Local Storage
This application uses your browser's local storage to save all your data including courses, assignments, notes, resources, and prep items. Local storage is a feature built into modern web browsers that allows websites to store data directly on your device. This means your information is saved locally on your computer or mobile device and is not sent to any external servers. Your data remains private and accessible only to you on the device where you created it.
Dedicated Browser Recommendation
We strongly recommend using a dedicated browser exclusively for this application, such as Vivaldi, Opera, Brave, or DuckDuckGo. This is important because each time you clear your browser's history, cookies, or local storage, all your assignment organizer data will be permanently deleted. By using a separate browser just for this app, you can safely clear the history in your main browser without losing your academic data. This also helps prevent accidental data loss and keeps your assignment information organized in one dedicated space.
Regular Data Backup - Easily Export and Import Your Data
To protect your valuable academic data, we highly recommend regularly exporting your information by clicking the "Data Management" button in your user menu and selecting "Export All Data". This creates a downloadable backup file containing all your courses, assignments, notes, resources, and prep items. Save these backup files to a secure location like your computer, cloud storage, or external drive. If you need to move to another device, switch browsers, or start over, you can easily restore all your previous work by importing your backup file using the "Import Data" feature.
Software Disclaimer
This Assignment Organizer is free software provided as a work in progress and is used on an "as-is" basis. While we strive to provide a reliable and useful tool for managing your academic work, please understand that the software may contain bugs, undergo changes, or experience interruptions. We recommend maintaining regular backups of your data and using the application as a supplementary tool alongside your existing academic organization methods. By using this software, you acknowledge that you do so at your own discretion and responsibility.
How to Use
Step-by-step guide to using all features of the Assignment Organizer
Adding a Course
Start by adding your courses to organize all your academic work. Click the "Add Course" button in the Courses section to create a new course entry. Enter the course name, professor's name, and a description of what the course covers. Set the start and end dates for the semester or term. Having your courses properly set up is essential because all your assignments, notes, prep items, and links will be organized by course. This makes it easy to find everything related to a specific class in one place.
Creating Assignments with Success Criteria
When adding assignments, make sure to include detailed success criteria (rubric items) so you know exactly what you need to achieve to succeed. Click "Add Assignment" and select the course, enter the assignment title, and set the due date. The most important part is adding rubric criteria - these are the specific requirements your professor expects. For example: "Include title page with proper formatting," "Cite at least 5 academic sources," "Minimum 1500 words," or "Include graphs and data analysis." Having clear success criteria helps you focus on what actually matters for getting a good grade instead of guessing what the professor wants.
Taking Notes During Class
The notes feature is designed to be simple and fast for capturing information during lectures. Click "Add Note" to create a new note for any course. You can use the rich text editor to format your notes with bold, italic, underline, bullet points, numbered lists, and even tables. The formatting tools make it easy to organize information clearly. You can change font sizes, add colors, and highlight important text. Since notes are organized by course, you can quickly find all your lecture notes, reading notes, or study notes for each class. The preview feature lets you see a snippet of each note so you can find what you're looking for quickly.
Managing Prep Items
Prep items help you stay on top of things you need to do before class or for upcoming events. Use this for required readings, homework that needs to be completed before the next lecture, or preparation for field trips and special events. Click "Add Prep Item" and select the course, enter what needs to be prepared (like "Read Chapter 5" or "Complete lab worksheet"), set the due date, and add any additional details. This keeps you organized and ensures you come to class prepared, which often affects participation grades and your overall understanding of the material.
Organizing Course Links
Professors often share many links throughout the semester - course websites, online resources, research databases, video lectures, and supplementary materials. Instead of losing track of these important resources, use the Links section to keep them organized by course. Click "Add Link" and select the course, enter a descriptive title for the link, paste the URL, and add a brief description of what the resource contains. This creates a personal library of all the digital resources for each course, making it easy to find that important research database or video lecture when you need it for studying or assignments.
Using the Calendar View
The calendar gives you a visual overview of everything you have coming up across all your courses. It automatically displays all your assignment due dates and prep item deadlines in an easy-to-read monthly view. You can quickly see which days are busy and which days are free, helping you plan your study time effectively. Assignment due dates appear in blue, while prep items appear in green with a book icon. Click the navigation arrows to move between months and get a broader view of your academic schedule. This bird's-eye view helps prevent last-minute cramming and allows you to distribute your workload more evenly throughout the semester.
